UIndy to host national video analysis lab.pdf

The LEVA Digital Multimedia Evidence Processing Lab features twenty dTective analysis work stations from Ocean Systems, each powered by an Avid Technology Media Composer. Avid LanShare, a collaborative workflow engine, ties all of the analysis systems together, allowing students to work collectively to solve a single case or to work separately and securely on individual project. A multimedia teaching system by Robotel allows better communication between the instructor and students and provides advanced information flow throughout the class.

The lab hosts classes for beginner to advanced law enforcement users in areas focused on:

  • multiplexed decoding
  • image stabilization
  • frame averaging
  • automatic image tracking
  • time lapse and real-time video analysis
  • image enhancement techniques
  • digital video recovery & analysis
  • videotape repair & authentication
  • legal issues & courtroom testimony

With the demand for Information Technology support people growing, how do we in higher education hire and retain qualified staff?  It seems that as our employees get more experience and training, about the time they become fully qualified for their position they get hired by someone else for twice or even three times the salary we offer them.  With this kind of turn-over how can we possibly provide the type of technical support, with cross-trained back-up, that our campuses are demanding?

We will talk about these issues and provide some insight into how this is being accomplished at some institutions of higher education.
