Re: Ball Brothers Foundation • Venture Fund for 2004-2005

The 2004-2005 Ball Venture Fund competition—the seventh year for this very popular initiative funded by the Ball Brothers Foundation—resulted in 17 proposals from 13 member campuses.

We were pleased to welcome again the same knowledgeable, engaged panel of judges, listed below; all participated except Mr. Slash, who had a last minute conflict:

  • Douglas A. Bakken, Ball Brothers Foundation

  • Larry Cimino, Eli Lilly Company

  • Jill R. Kramer, Lumina Foundation for Education

  • Joseph Slash, Indianapolis Urban League

  • R. Duane Odle, The Odle McGuire & Shook Corporation

The judging was Thursday, May 5. The judges selected the following for funding:

Earlham College $30,000
Toward Abrahamic Studies: Seed money for an Islamic
Studies Program to be coordinated with Jewish,
Islamic and Quaker/Christian components under the
umbrella of an Abrahamic Studies Program, the
first of its kind in the United States.

University of Evansville        $29,719
Seed funding to launch a national, student-driven
literary journal—Méasŭre—which will publish
metrical poetry, essays on poetry and interviews
with prominent practitioners of both.

Congratulations to our colleagues at Earlham College and the University of Evansville!

Our appreciation is extended to all who submitted proposals for consideration. We look forward to another competitive round next year.

Please watch for an announcement soon on our first Ball Venture Fund Colloquium.
