Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is one of the few U.S. private colleges specializing in undergraduate science, engineering, and mathematics education. Rose-Hulman has earned a reputation as one of the nation’s best undergraduate colleges because of its educational philosophy that focuses on small classes, dedicated teachers, and an innovative curriculum.
For the past fifteen years, U.S. News & World Report’s “College Guide” has ranked Rose-Hulman as the nation’s best college specializing in undergraduate engineering. Since 2002, its civil, mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering departments have been ranked first nationally among their peers from other colleges.
The college’s reputation attracts some of the nation’s most academically talented students; the typical freshman ranks in the top 10 percent of all high school students who took the SAT or ACT. Rose-Hulman provides outstanding personal attention to the needs of each student, as well as access to modern laboratories and quality teaching, preparing students for success in engineering, science, medicine, law, and business.
Rose-Hulman seniors are highly sought after by business and industry. For the past quarter century, Rose-Hulman has maintained a placement rate of its graduates of nearly 100 percent, with the average starting salary for 2014 graduates in the $68,000 range. About 20 percent of graduates choose to attend graduate school immediately upon graduation.
There are many ways for students to be involved on campus and in the community and to gain leadership skills. The 90-plus student organizations and clubs include governance groups, professional and technical societies, performing arts groups, recreational and sports clubs, Greek letter organizations, the student newspaper, the radio station, and special interest groups. Approximately 85 percent of students participate in one or more of these.
Rose-Hulman also offers 21 NCAA Division III men’s and women’s varsity sports, and for 29 straight years, at least one Rose-Hulman athlete has been named Academic All-American.
