Economic IMPact of ICI Colleges
Major Contributors at State and Local Levels
Remember Paul Harvey's radio show, The Rest of the Story? I want to share with you The Rest of the Story - about the economic impact of Indiana’s 31 private colleges and universities. Increasing annually, and now almost $5 billion, it's a lot. Here’s the “rest of the story":
- ICI colleges and universities employ more than 20,000 Hoosiers - as a sector among Indiana's biggest employers.
- Around the state, a local ICI member institution is often the community's largest employer and its greatest economic engine.
- Indiana business benefits from a smart workforce - ICI students earn 1/3 of the state’s bachelor’s degrees, yet comprise less than 1/5 of its undergraduates (smart, huh?).
ICI colleges and universities lead research and innovation, many with venture and entrepreneurial centers, spurring growth and development.
ICI colleges and universities are critical drivers of “quality of life” in their communities, with staff and students providing cultural enrichment, civic leadership, and community service.
