Independent Colleges Indiana

For Teachers, For Students, For Indiana

Indiana is getting STEM-smarter! In fact, increased demand by K-12 teachers in science, technology, engineering and math has outpaced the state’s $1.5 million grant that funds ICI’s STEM Teach initiative. By the end of this summer (6 months ahead of schedule), some 600 Hoosier teachers will have returned to their classrooms with bolstered knowledge and instructional skills in those hot fields. They will have completed courses and workshops at ICI colleges and universities around Indiana. An added bonus: the grant paid their tuition/fees and a $400 completion award.

What’s not so good: Funds will be depleted by the end of this summer, with no money left for courses and workshops in the Fall. Because of the STEM Teach initiative’s demand and success, Indiana needs its affordable impact. Luckily, the General Assembly can fund this grant again in the new state budget and keep growing Indiana’s economy from kindergarten through high paying STEM jobs. ICI colleges and universities are ready and will provide world-class, STEM education to teachers in all sectors of the state.

For a picture of STEM Teach, watch the video below from the National Science Teachers Association's international conference in March. STEM Teach was one of twelve innovative programs chosen to be highlighted for helping to transform science education and learning.
