ICI Helps Indiana Meet Dual-Credit Credentialing Need
Thanks to $2.14 M State Grant

Teachers across the state have the opportunity to gain additional expertise in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics at no cost at Indiana’s private colleges through STEM Teach II.  Made possible by a $2.14 million grant from the state to ICI, the initiative builds upon ICI’s successful STEM Teach I, also funded through a state grant ($1.4 M) and resulting in more than 600 enrollments in STEM courses and workshops by K-12 teachers.

ICI is partnering with the Center for Excellence and Leadership of Learning (CELL) at the University of Indianapolis in administering the program, as it did for the initial grant.  This round is focused on providing graduate coursework for secondary teachers to gain dual-credit credentialing, an urgent need for Indiana in light of the Higher Learning Commission’s policy that dual-credit teachers hold a master’s in the subject taught or a master’s in another area plus 18 graduate credits in the specific content.

For Spring 2016, more than 350 registrations have already been received; offerings will continue through Spring 2017 (unless funding is depleted earlier by such high demand). To learn more:

For Your Consideration:

Backing up with hard data the value of the liberal arts, a new research study “...links certain traits of undergraduate education to success in life: meaningful interaction with professors, studying a variety of fields outside the major and having classroom talks that go to issues of ethics and life.
