ICI STEM Teach Indiana Update

Meeting the Need

The law of supply and demand is clicking on all cylinders for the ICI STEM Teach Indiana initiative. Funded by a $1.5 M state grant, this effort is part of Indiana’s commitment to growing the STEM sector of its economy. By increasing the number and expertise of K-12 teachers in STEM areas, the aim is to increase the number of students—and future Hoosier workers—pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

On the supply side, ICI’s 31 colleges and universities are uniquely positioned to meet this need in terms of geography, with locations all around the state; STEM offerings, running the full gamut of science, technology, engineering, and math; and track record, producing 35+% of the state’s STEM degrees while enrolling 20% of its undergrads. On the demand side, 213 Hoosier teachers have already registered for Fall 2014 courses and workshops at ICI colleges, ranging from advanced calculus to lessons targeting science standards in grades 3-6 to anatomy & physiology. More courses and workshops (free of charge plus a $400 completion award) will be offered Spring, Summer, and Fall 2015. For more information:
