Independent Colleges Indiana

EVAN BAYH 21st century scholars

Advocating for all students, regardless of family background, to have the choice of attending their "best fit" college has always been ICI's top priority. What has helped in realizing this mission is the tremendous bipartisan support that has always existed in Indiana around the issue.

That spirit was on full display on May 5th when Governor Mike Pence signed an executive order renaming the 21st Century Scholars Program in honor of Governor Evan Bayh, who signed the scholarship program into law a little more than 25 years ago. Since then, more than 70,000 Hoosier students have had the opportunity through this program to achieve the goal of earning college degrees, many of them at ICI colleges and universities.

The ceremony was held at Indiana State University in the Bayh School of Education theatre. Former State Representative and Commissioner for Higher Education Stan Jones, who crafted and shepherded the legislation through the General Assembly, was also recognized.
