The Indiana Academy



Members of The Indiana Academy and the designated members of the ICI Board of Directors may nominate a distinguished individual for membership in The Indiana Academy to recognize her or his exceptional leadership in philanthropy, business, public service, advancement of the sciences, the arts, literature, culture, and scholarship in connection with Indiana’s independent non-profit colleges and universities.

From time to time, the Academy may select for membership a person whose professional work on behalf of private higher education is deemed exceptional and whose membership will further the purposes of ICI and the Indiana Academy.

Sitting presidents or other current staff members of Indiana colleges and universities, independent or public, are not eligible for nomination or membership. However, individuals who have previously held such positions may be considered. Membership in The Indiana Academy is not limited with respect to gender, race, ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, or occupation.

Nominees will have demonstrated their support of Indiana’s non-profit colleges and universities through any several of these:  board service and leadership, philanthropy, alumni engagement, sponsorship or advocacy of public policy, and significant professional activities benefitting Indiana’s independent colleges and universities.

Additionally, membership in the Academy is limited to individuals who have maintained a legal residence in Indiana for at least five (5) years cumulatively, at some point in their lives.
